The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning is a hands-on course designed for students interested in doing a trade who are eager to enter the workforce upon completion of secondary school, rather than move on to tertiary study. Students undertaking the VCAL go off site to work in their chosen industry and attend TAFE and school as part of their studies. The VCAL is an equivalent certificate to the VCE and upon successful completion of year 11, VCAL students receive the Intermediate VCAL Certificate, a recognised qualification.

At Rowville Secondary College, the course is structured in such a way that students are able to achieve a VCE , VCAL and VET certificate at the end of their studies.
