Excellence from the beginning

Based at the both the Eastern and Western Campus Rowville General Excellence is an academic program that provides for diversity of talent and interest.

It has the broadest range of both core curriculum and elective subjects and allows students to explore and discover their strengths and passions. It provides curricula and extra curricula opportunities for students who love a combination of arts, sports, mathematics, science, language, literature, technology and humanities subjects. In year 11 and 12, students can select to complete VCE, VCAL, VET or SBAT.

Rowville Secondary College aims to provide the highest quality education to all our students. Our mission is to equip each student with the skills needed to successfully live and work in Australian society. Positive attitudes to learning leading to excellence in outcomes will come from vibrant, challenging and exciting programs.
The College staff work closely with parents and the community to ensure that these goals are achieved.

Check out Mr Johnstone’s recap of our recent staff vs. students basketball match:

“Students played staff in another game of basketball to try and redeem themselves from the embarrassment they suffered at the hand of Rowville Staff. The two weeks between games helped Mr Cullen and Mr Hoeft recover from their previous injuries; an injured hand and chipped toenail, the respective injuries. However, Mr Hoeft was sidelined with an ankle injury he sustained the previous night.

The game started off with a fast pace with some Max Lucas displaying some very quick hands and dribbling skills only to be disposed by Mr Cullen. There was a large dispute as to whether or not it was a clean steal. The staff quickly took a commanding lead and with students subbing every 3 minutes it didn’t look like they were ever going to close the lead. But with some quick scoring and a few 3 points the students were only down by 5 points with a few minutes to go. Staff quickly regrouped and went on to win by points.

This makes it 3 wins from 3 for the staff with the students yet to put a real competitive fight. The series will kick off in week 2 of term 3 after a deserved holiday.”

Last Thursday we held our whole school assembly at both the East & West campus. Our college Principal Julie Kennedy opened with a powerful message for everyone that a successful life is all about what you ‘give’ (not what you receive) and it’s about doing small acts of kindness every day for the greater good.

We were treated to some outstanding music performances before the award presentations. The awards included RSC Citizenship Award, RSC Leadership Award and RSC Endeavour & Success Award. Well done to all of our students who received an award!

At the East, Sean Thornton, Founder of Anonymous X shared insight into the great work his organisation does for the homeless and less fortunate in Melbourne. If you would like to volunteer please visit: www.anonymousx.com.au/

Our assembly was closed by Arturo Tallarida, our new Assistant Principal sharing his experience of the exceptional welcome and community spirit he has received since starting at the school this term.
