Interview with our School Captain

Name – Feng-Mao Liu
Title – School Captain Eastern Campus
Program – Rowville Institute of the Arts

1. As school captain or vice-captain, what are you most excited about this year?

I am most excited about working with the leadership team at school. This could not only improve my leadership skills, but I will also get a great insight to how the leadership teams work in a school. I am also very excited to see the ideas my fellow captains and I will come up with during the year.

2. What do you love about Rowville Secondary College?

I love Rowville’s Arts Academy! (RIA). I have been in this program since year 7, and it has absolutely changed the way I think about things – Not just with music, but also with my life. I have learnt how to manage my time, how to collaborate and work with other people, and also how to perform under pressure! These are skills that I can utilize in my everyday life, not just for music.

3. What changes or implementations would you like to put in place to make RSC better for all students?

I would like to improve the school’s house system! Even though we already have an Athletics Day, I believe that if we also have a swimming carnival. It will dramatically improve the house spirit and the competitiveness between the houses. This will bring students together, and also allow them to have more to talk about during lunch and recess.

4. How do you feel about this year’s school theme ‘This is us’ – what do you think you will do day-to-day to action this?

I believe that the theme ‘This is us’ is very good for the school. It encourages us help each other out when someone is in need, it trains us to work as a team rather than by ourselves. Most importantly it shows that if we respect each other in the school, we will then respect the school grounds, this would then become a continuous ripple that will last a very long time. For me personally, I think a day to day action that I could do to support the theme, would be trying to have the upmost respect to everyone at the school, by saying hello to teachers when I walk pass them, and also be kind to any of my friends/new students to the school.
