Our Library

Rowville Secondary College prides itself on offering excellent resources in both print and digital to facilitate teaching and learning. There is a library at each campus serving the needs of students and teachers, and library staff are able to assist by providing information and resources. We are open from 8.00am to 4.00pm and students are encouraged to visit before and after school, and during recess and lunch.

The libraries are a welcoming space for independent and group study, research, and quiet reading. They also provide an opportunity for socialising with friends, group discussions, and playing games. During class time, teachers can send a small group of students to work in the library.

Activities

CLUBS

East – Book Club (Friday lunchtimes)

New members are welcome to join the Librarian and students to discuss books and socialise over a cup of tea. Each year the Book Club goes on an excursion to a literature event in the City.

West – Manga and Anime Club (Tuesday Lunchtimes)

The Librarian, International Student Project Officer and students talk about Manga books on the shelves and online, and watch Anime films and episodes. Bringing students together with a love of this genre leads to a relaxed cultural exchange.

East & West – Games Club (Thursday Lunchtimes)

Library staff set up and help with the rules and strategies of games. Favourites include chess, checkers, Monopoly, Game of Life, Cluedo, Connect Four and Uno. We introduce newcomers to other players and join in the games too.

Other clubs and activities

Library staff support teacher-run clubs and activities. We have hosted Dungeons and Dragons, Mindfulness, and Student Representative meetings.

EVENTS

Various events are held in the library, including Book Week where the whole school celebrates reading and writing with a week of events, including author visits, writing workshops, lunchtime activities and yummy food.
