At the end of June, Rowville Secondary College Year 10 students from both our East and West campuses embarked on the College’s annual 11-day Central Australia Trip – An unforgettable educational adventure through the heart of Australia.

The trip provided students with the opportunity to experience some of Australia’s most iconic landscapes and landmarks while learning about the country’s unique geography, history and culture.

Highlights of the journey included mining for opals and sleeping underground in Coober Pedy, exploring Alice Springs, visiting the spectacular Standley Chasm and Simpsons Gap, and discovering Australia’s fascinating reptiles at the Alice Springs Reptile Centre.

One of the most memorable moments for many students was seeing Uluru for the very first time and completing the base walk around this internationally recognised natural wonder. Students also visited the breathtaking Kings Canyon, explored the impressive domes of Kata Tjuta (The Olgas), and stopped at the striking pink salt waters of Lake Hart.

Throughout the trip, students demonstrated resilience and teamwork, embracing the challenges of camping in two-person tents and the chilly Central Australian winter nights. They also enjoyed plenty of laughs, games and friendships during the long bus journeys between destinations.

A favourite tradition of the trip is the much-anticipated Formal Night, where students and staff dress up in creative op shop outfits purchased while staying in Alice Springs. The evening is always filled with laughter and provides a fun way to celebrate the adventure together.

The Central Australia Trip continues to be one of Rowville Secondary College’s most valued experiences, giving students the opportunity to step outside their comfort zones, build lasting friendships and create lifelong memories while exploring one of Australia’s most remarkable regions.
